Welcome

The New Directions in the Study of Alcohol Group (NDSAG) is concerned with the use and abuse of alcohol in society, and the treatment of people with alcohol-related problems. Its aim is to promote a better understanding of these topics. The Group is mainly a forum for debate; where anybody concerned with helping people with drinking problems is encouraged to exchange ideas, share results and learn about new developments in the field.

The main focus of NDSAG activity is the Annual Conference. A series of presentations, debates and networking spread over three or four days. This has always been a chance to meet with friends and adversaries, both old and new; to challenge and be challenged in our thinking and our practice.

NDSAG is not able to give help and advice to individuals regarding drink problems.
If you require help of this nature
Alcohol Concern has a list of agencies in your area that can help.

Journal

The New Directions Group in the Study of Alcohol Group publishes a report from its annual conference.
The 'New Directions' Journal contains the pick of the papers from the annual conference, and other members' papers.
This is included in the price of membership for each year.

Recent back issues of the New Directions in the Study of Alcohol Journal (2008 & 2009) are obtainable on request for £5 plus postage. Older Journals (#19 to #32 except #28) are available free while stocks last, you pay only for postage & packing - £3 (UK postage up to 3 issues) or £6 (UK postage more than 3 issues), please contact for overseas postal costs.

For a preview of the NDSAG Journal content, check the 25th Anniversary special edition here and the introductory samples from the 2007 and 2008 Journals.

The D L Davies Prize of £200 is awarded annually for the best article published in the Journal.
All submitted articles are automatically considered for the Prize.

Submissions are usually by invitation from last year’s conference, but we are launching a call for papers for the next journal, and the best will win a bursary to attend the 2011 NDSAG conference.
If you are interested in contributing, and for any other enquiries about the NDSAG Journal please contact Adrian Brown (contact@ndsag.org)

Discussion

The existing NDSAG yahoo email discussion group has rarely been used, and so it has been closed.

The NDSAG Blog http://ndsag.blogspot.com will be replaced by updates to this site, but will remain as an archive of previous conferences.

The best placed for joining in discussions with NDSAG members is at the annual conference.
